Triple Play, Schwindel's Bat Spark Legends Win

(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) Frank Schwindel led the Lexington offense with a homer and a double, and the defense turned in the first triple play in team history as the Legends defeated the West Virginia Power 5-2 Sunday afternoon.
The Legends took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Elier Hernandez walked, moved to third on a single by Michael Antonio and scored on a ground out by Chad Johnson. They added a run in the fourth on back-to-back doubles by Samir Duenez and Schwindel.
Lexington added two more runs in the fifth inning. Ramon Torres led off with a single, moved to third on a double by Alfredo Escalera and scored on a single by Humberto Arteaga as Escalera moved to third.
Escalera scored as Duenez grounded into a force play at second base.
The Power cut the lead in half with two runs in the sixth inning. A double by Francisco Diaz, an infield out and a single by Barrett Barnes produced one run. A throwing error by Lexington pitcher Luis Santos after he fielded a ground ball left runners at first and second, and pinch-runner Danny Collins scored as Harold Ramirez grounded into a force play.
Schwindel's solo home run to left field in the bottom of the seventh closed out the scoring.
The triple play occurred in the top of the second inning. JaCoby Jones and Erich Weiss singled, putting runners at first and second. Wyatt Mathisen hit a one-bounce ground ball to the pitcher, Santos, who threw to shortstop Humberto Arteaga at second for the first out. Arteaga's relay to first was in time to get Mathisen, and Duenez, the first baseman, threw to the catcher, Schwindel, who put the tag on Jones as he tried to score from second.
Santos (1-0) worked the first five and one-third innings and picked up the win. Jose Rodriguez finished the game, earning his first save.
West Virginia starter Luis Heredia (0-1) pitched the first five innings and took the loss.
The Legends, now 2-2 on the season, will remain at home to play the Rome Braves in a three-game series. Monday's game begins at 7:05 p.m.
