Monsters Fall in San Antonio, 3-0

April 6, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL) - Cleveland Monsters News Release

Michael Houser kept the Lake Erie Monsters (29-31-0-9) off the scoreboard all evening to help the San Antonio Rampage (29-33-3-6) to a 3-0 win over the Monsters Saturday night at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas. The loss is the second straight for the Monsters, who will play the final game of their season-long seven-game road trip Sunday. The Monsters are eight points behind the Oklahoma City Barons, who hold the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Monsters have seven games remaining, while Oklahoma City has six games left.

San Antonio scored twice in the second period to take a 2-0 lead through 40 minutes. Josh McFadden scored his first American Hockey League goal when he picked up a loose puck on a rush up the ice and snapped it past Monsters goalie Calvin Pickard from the slot at 7:11 of the middle frame. At the 17:05 mark, Connor Brickley batted in a rebound for the Rampage; a power play goal that stretched the San Antonio lead to 2-0.

Greg Rallo snapped a shot from the high slot off a rush up the ice to beat Pickard and extend the Rampage lead to 3-0 on the power play at 7:36 of the third period; Rallo's goal would be the final tally of the hockey game.

Pickard stopped 27 of 30 in the loss; he is 15-17-6 on the season. Michael Houser stopped 25 Monsters shots in the shutout for San Antonio; he is 12-12-1 on the season.

The Monsters conclude their road trip tomorrow against the Texas Stars at 6:00 PM Eastern; the game airs live on ESPN 850 WKNR.
