D-Fenders Fall to Energy in Regular Season Finale

DES MOINES, IA - The Los Angeles D-Fenders (31-19) were defeated by the Iowa Energy (31-19) 148-128 on Saturday night at Wells Fargo Arena.

In the first quarter, Los Angeles asserted their offensive prowess by converting seven three-point field goals en route to a 43-point first period output. Despite leading by eight points entering the second frame, the D-Fenders allowed Iowa to shoot 64.3 percent from the field and claim an 11-point advantage at the half. In total, Los Angeles shot 48.1 percent from the field, but allowed the Energy to shoot 57.1 percent from the field in the first half.

In the third quarter, Los Angeles responded with an 8-0 run in the middle of the frame to reclaim the lead from Iowa. However, the D-Fenders were unable to hold onto their edge and fell behind the Energy once again by six points entering the final twelve minutes of play. Los Angeles would pull within five points on a James Southerland free-throw at the 9:35 mark, but could not withstand the rush from the Energy to close the game and fell on the final night of the regular season.

Terrence Williams led the offensive attack for Los Angeles with 14 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds. Also in double-digits for the D-Fenders were, Brandon Costner (25 points), Shawne Williams (24 points, eight rebounds), Josiah Turner (15 points), Josh Magette (14 points, nine rebounds), C.J. Williams (14 points) and Andre Ingram (12 points).

All but one player finished in double-digits for the Energy, led by a double-double from Curtis Stinson (11 points, 14 assists). Othyus Jeffers (24 points, eight rebounds), Larry Owens (24 points, nine rebounds), Patrick Christopher (23 points, seven rebounds), Moses Ehambe (20 points, six rebounds), Austin Freeman (18 points, six assists), Josh Boone (14 points, nine rebounds) and Augustus Gilchrist (12 points) were the other players to finish in double-digits for Iowa.

Overall, the D-Fenders will enter the postseason as the champions of the Western Division. This is the second division title in franchise history for Los Angeles. This also marks the third best regular season record in franchise history.

The playoff schedule will be announced tomorrow.
