Offensive Attack Not Enough for Jupiter

Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

Jupiter, FL - Ryan Goetz and Terrence Dayleg each had three hits as the Hammerheads collected 13 base knocks on Friday, but the offensive effort was not enough as Jupiter lost to Fort Myers 11-6 at Roger Dean Stadium.

Hammerhead starter Josh Hodges had one bad inning, the second frame, but it put his team in a hole and Jupiter was never able to recover.

With one out in the second Hodges walked Max Kepler then Stuart Turner singled to right. Kepler would score the game's first run on a groundout. After Hodges walked another batter, Niko Goodrum singled to drive home Turner. Levi Michael followed by slicing a double over the head of the left fielder to score a pair. Jorge Polanco would cap the scoring when he pulled a double down the first base line to plate Michael with the inning's fifth run.

Hodges would be handed the loss but he settled down to allow just one more hit before he was pulled from the game following the fifth inning.

Jupiter would attempt to start a comeback in the bottom of the third when Dayleg pulled a double between short and third that plated Goetz who had reached on a double.

In the fifth the Hammerheads would pick up two more runs when Dayleg hit a single up the box with the bases loaded to drive in a pair. Dayleg finished the night 3-for-5 with three RBI.

Just when it looked like the Hammerheads were back in the game Fort Myers rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh, highlighted by a three-run homer off the bat of Adam Brett Walker.

Jupiter would get a run in the bottom half of the frame when Austin Barnes plated Goetz with a single but the Miracle would pick up runs in the eighth and ninth to put the game out of reach. Barnes would drive home another run as a part of a two run ninth inning for the Hammerheads but at that point it was too little too late.

Tyler Duffey picked up the win for Fort Myers. Although he allowed eight hits the Hammerheads managed only three runs off the righty as he picked up his first victory of the season.

Jupiter will hit the road for the first time this season on Saturday as they head on the second leg of the home and home series with the Miracle. First pitch at Hammond Stadium is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
