Mitchell Vande Sompel Named to First All-Rookie Team

Oshawa Generals defenceman, Mitchell Vande Sompel was named to the first team for the 2013-2014 OHL All-Rookie Teams. Vande Sompel, a rookie from London, Ontario was the Oshawa Generals 1st round selection of the 2013 Ontario Priority Selection, getting drafted at 14th overall.

The 5'10, 181 pound defenceman had a great rookie campaign with the Generals. In 47 games played, Vande Sompel had 5 goals and 15 assists for 20 points while quarterbacking the Generals number 1 powerplay unit.

Joining Vande Sompel on the First All-Rookie team was 2013-2014 OHL Rookie of the Year, Travis Konecny at centre, Andrew Mangiapane at left wing, Blake Speers at right wing, Travis Dermott on defence and Mackenzie Blackwood in goal.

The OHL All-Rookie Teams were selected by the OHL's General Managers.  Players were voted on initially by position within their conference receiving five points for a first place vote, three for a second place vote, and one for a third.  Top vote getters in each position made up the final ballot that was then circulated to all 20 teams.
