Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-Waterloo Black Hawks supporters gave generously during the winter though the Slumberland Furniture Fan's Choice Player of the Year program, and on Thursday, the Black Hawks revealed the local charitable organizations which were chosen by fans to receive a share of the money raised.

Approximately $2,500 was contributed and will be divided among the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Cedar Valley, the Cedar Bend Humane Society, the Lincoln Elementary Adopt-a-Family Program, and Alternatives Pregnancy Center. A portion of the fund's proceeds have already been donated to SportAbility of Iowa and the Iowa Chairiots Wheelchair Basketball team. This was the first season in which fans have been able to offer input on which groups should benefit from campaign. This season's Slumberland fundraising total represents more than a 50% increase from the roughly $1,600 generated in 2012/13.

As in prior years, one dollar was worth one vote toward determining the team's most popular player. For the second consecutive season, Dane Cooper was named the Slumberland Furniture Fan's Choice Player of the Year, as announced at the Black Hawks' annual awards banquet on March 23rd. The team will continue to accept contributions as the regular season concludes and the playoffs begin.

"We're not going to take Dane's award away. Any contributions at this point won't affect the outcome, but they can still do a lot of good for some great local causes here in the Cedar Valley," said Black Hawks Vice President of Operations Mike Falk.

The Slumberland Furniture Fan's Choice Player of the Year donation box will remain across from the Express Employment Professionals Fan Service Table near Section D at Young Arena. The Black Hawks' regular season schedule concludes Saturday against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. The Clark Cup playoffs begin on April 11th against either the Sioux Falls Stampede or Sioux City Musketeers. Tickets for the season finale and Games One and Two of Waterloo's first round playoff series are on sale now by calling the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680 or online from waterlooblackhawks.com.
