Stockton Thunder News Release

Stockton, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's New York Islanders and AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, have been assigned defenseman Marc Cantin from Bridgeport, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Rich Kromm announced Thursday.

Cantin, 24, comes to the Thunder after playing 39 games in the AHL this season with the Sound Tigers, where he posted 2 points, both assists, and 92 penalty minutes. Cantin is in his third pro season and second full year with Bridgeport after starting his career with the Providence Bruins in 2011-12. In 82 career AHL games he has 3 assists and 166 penalty minutes.

The Peterborough, Ontario native comes to the ECHL for the third time in his career and first with the Thunder. He has now made at least one trip down to the ECHL in each of his pro seasons. Cantin skated 25 games with the Reading Royals in his first year and spent six games with the Las Vegas Wranglers last season. He has 2 goals and 8 assists in ECHL regular season games.

Cantin has spent both of his professional postseasons in the ECHL. He appeared in all seven games for Las Vegas last year as the Wranglers suffered a first round exit to the Stockton Thunder. Cantin tallied 2 goals and 2 assists in that series against his now current team.

The defenseman spent five seasons in junior hockey playing in the OHL with the Belleville Bulls, Windsor Spitfires and Mississauga St. Michael's Majors. He reached the Memorial Cup three times in his career, once with each team, winning the trophy in 2008 with Belleville. Cantin finished his decorated junior career with 80 points in 249 regular season games.
