Colorado Eagles News Release

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - Kyle Kraemer's late second-period goal was not enough to ignite a rally for the Colorado Eagles (31-24-7-4) as they fell 5-1 to the Utah Grizzlies (36-22-3-5) on Wednesday evening at the Maverik Center.

Just 4:10 into the first frame, Grizzlies forward Phil Mangan beat Eagles netminder Dustin Butler, five-hole, after a turnover in the Eagles zone to give Utah the early 1-0 advantage. With only :01 left on the clock in the first, Utah defenseman Martin Lee scored a buzzer-beater goal to put the Grizzlies up 2-0 heading into the first intermission.

Grizzlies forward Kris Hogg caught a pass in the low slot to score Utah's third goal of the game and give them the 3-0 lead over the Eagles, 5:03 into the second period. Twelve minutes and twenty-four seconds into to second, Utah forward Vincent Scarsella put the puck over Butler, top-shelf, to extend the Grizzlies lead to 4-0 over the Eagles. Less than two minutes later Kraemer finally put the Eagles on the board, 4-1, as he rebounded his own shot to beat Utah goalie Aaron Dell glove side.

With just over seven minutes remaining in the third stanza, Utah forward Danick Paquette tore down the ice on a breakaway to score and put the Grizzlies in the 5-1 lead.

The Eagles head to Idaho to take on the Steelheads on Friday and Saturday.
