The long wait is over and its time for Kernels Baseball! Your Cedar Rapids Kernels open the 2014 Midwest League season with a four game series against Clinton. Here's a preview of what you can expect these first four games:

April 3-6 vs. Clinton

The Kernels open the 2014 MWL season by hosting the Clinton LumberKings, the MWL affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, in a four game series.

It's Opening Night at Perfect Game Field on Thursday, April 3rd when the Kernels take on Clinton at 6:35 pm. Get here when the gates open at 5:30 pm for Z 102.9 Thirsty Thursday where 12 oz. regular draft beer and 20 oz. bottled soda and water are just $2.00 all game, plus get $1 off margaritas at the Hacienda Las Glorias / La Cantina Mexican Cart. College students - show your college ID and receive a club ticket and two slices of pizza for just $7 every Thursday home game on Little Caesar's College Night. 2014 Magnet Schedules will be passed out at all four home games, thanks to Wells Fargo. Enjoy face painting on the concourse by Kennedy Wilson, and the Kernels welcome local teen, Hailey Steimel, to the game and she will throw out the ceremonial first pitch on Opening Day. The game will be broadcast LIVE on KCRG 9.2. First pitch between the Kernels and Clinton is set for 6:35 pm.

You'll want to be here when the gates open at 5:30 pm on Friday, April 4th as the first 1,000 fans through the gates receive a free Captain America T-shirt as part of Captain American Movie Theme Night. It's our first 98.1 KHAK Friday Mug Club. Buy a 16 oz. souvenir mug of soda or regular draft beer for $6 and get refills at the concession stand for just $3. Bring your mug back to every Friday home game for the same refill special all season long. The Kernels are set to take on Clinton at 6:35 pm.

Take advantage of some springtime afternoon baseball when the Kernels take on Clinton at 2:05 pm on Saturday, April 5th. The Kernels welcome special guests the Springville Schools to the game. Gates open at 1:00 pm.

The first home stand of the year wraps up on Sunday, April 6th when the Kernels take on Beloit at 2:05 pm. It's a Run the Bases Sunday, sponsored by Planet X with media sponsor 104.5 KDAT. Get autographs from the Kernels on the field after the game, play catch in the outfield and run the bases. Enjoy the balloon artistry of Papa Balloon and face painting by Kennedy on the concourse during the game. Sunday afternoons means Travel Advisors Baseball Bingo this year being co-sponsored by The Radisson near Mall of America. The final winner this season will be given a trip that includes 2 nights of Hotel stays at the Radisson Waterpark near the Mall of America, a gas card, a $500 gift certificate to Mall of America and 4 tickets to a Twins Game. It's a True Family weekend in Minneapolis. It's also our first 'Bike to the Ballpark' game, presented by New Belgium Brewing and Fleck Sales. Ride your bike to the ballpark and park in a secure area inside the stadium. Enter to win tickets to the New Belgium Pavilion outing in August by riding your bike to the game. Gates open at 1:00 pm.

Run the Bases Sunday, sponsored by Planet X: After every Sunday home game, kids (and adults) can run the bases, play catch on the field and get autographs from the Kernels, sponsored by Planet X with media sponsor 104.5 KDAT. During the game, play Travel Advisors Baseball Bingo, co-sponsored by the Radisson near Mall of America for a chance to win a trip to Minneapolis and see a Twins game. Enjoy the balloon artistry of Papa Balloon on the concourse and face painting by Kennedy. Magician Jackson Green will entertain at Sunday home games, starting June 15th.

Dollar Monday: Regular hot dogs, small popcorn, ice cream sandwiches, chips and Cracker Jacks are each $1 on Monday home games. Plus, get $1 taquitos at the Hacienda Las Glorias / La Cantina Mexican Cart.

Twins Tuesday, sponsored by Great Clips: Get an on-line coupon from the Kernels Facebook page or email newsletter for a 2 for 1 ticket offer at Tuesday home games as part of Twins Tuesday, presented by Great Clips. The Kernels will wear special jerseys and one lucky fan will win a pair of Minnesota Twins tickets given away at every Tuesday home game.

Free Money Wednesday, sponsored by First Federal Credit Union: First Federal Credit Union will give away $500 at the main gates at every Wednesday home game with $100 as the top cash prize.

Thirsty Thursday, sponsored by Z 102.9: 12 oz. regular draft beer, 20 oz. bottled soda and water are just $2.00 all game. Plus get $1 off margaritas at the Hacienda Las Glorias / La Cantina Mexican Cart. Every Thursday home game is also Little Caesars College Night. Kernels Friday Mug Club, sponsored by 98.1 KHAK: Buy a 16 oz. souvenir mug filled with your favorite regular draft beer or soda for just $6.00 and get refills at the Kernels concessions stands for just $3.00. Bring the mug back to every Kernels Friday home game for those $3.00 refills.

Tickets for all Kernel home games are available on-line at www.kernels.com; in person at the Kernels Ticket Office, or by calling 896-7560 during Ticket Office Hours. The Kernels Ticket Office is open from 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday and from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday. The ticket office is closed on Sunday, but opens at 11 am on Kernel Sunday Home games.
