Bryan Lerg Named Lake Erie Monsters 2013-14 IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year

April 2, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL) - Cleveland Monsters News Release

The Lake Erie Monsters are proud to announce that Bryan Lerg has been named the team's winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Cleveland community during the 2013-14 season.

Lerg has made a significant impact with Monsters community initiatives and was the "team leader" in appearances, as he made several throughout Northeast Ohio. Lerg, the Monsters captain, garnered more participation from teammates than ever before, and helped The Monsters Community Program and Fund impact more areas this season than in any other in the seven-year history of the franchise.

He participated in "Flashes of Hope" and visited Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital in support of pediatric cancer, was involved with the "Monsters Buddies" mentoring program with the Special Olympics of Ohio, and was a regular at team events from "Tour with the Monsters" to "Noodle Hockey" despite having his season cut short in January due to injury. Lerg assisted at St. Herman's House of Hospitality in Cleveland, with Make-a-Wish, and shaved his head for Locks of Love, raising $1,500 along with teammate J.T. Wyman.

Lerg is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL's 2013-14 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League later this month.
