Blue Jays Draft Pick Dunning Joins the Bucks

Waterloo, Iowa - The Waterloo Bucks have announced that right-handed pitcher Dane Dunning has signed to play with Waterloo for the 2014 season. Dunning, a freshman at the University of Florida, is the 24th player to be named to the Bucks' roster for the team's 20th season.

This season for the Gators, Dunning has appeared in seven games, starting one. The 6'3", 190-pounder owns a 5.23 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 10.1 innings pitched. Dunning is holding batters to a .152 average.

"Dane is a talented freshman that helped Florida to one of top recruiting classes in the nation last year," said Bucks Field Manager Travis Kiewiet. "He is a power pitcher that will sit around 90 with his fastball and possess a good curve ball that has depth which he can bury down in the zone. Dane has seen innings this season with Florida here early on, which is a good indication on how good he is now, and I'm excited to have him here in Waterloo for the summer."

A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Dunning was a 34th round draft pick by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft. Dunning was ranked number 40 in the state of Florida and number eight among right-handers in the Class of 2013 Final Rankings from Perfect Game.

Born December 20, 1994, Dunning played baseball at Clay High School where we was named to the Rawlings/Perfect Game Preseason Florida All-Region second team prior to his senior year. As a senior, Dunning went 5-2 with a 1.27 ERA over 72 innings.

The Bucks will open the 2014 season on the road versus the Rochester Honkers on May 27, but return to Waterloo for their home opener versus Rochester on May 28.
