Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB. -- The Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings have announced that forward Jayce Hawryluk continues to undergo medical tests Thursday to determine what may have caused him to have shortness of breath and become lightheaded following Wednesday's playoff game against the Regina Pats.
Hawryluk had just finished the game, in which he had scored three times including the third period game winner, when the situation arose when he left the ice.
"The doctor came and looked at him and they felt that they should take him to the hospital and, basically, rule some things out as much as anything," Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon told CKLQ's Bruce Luebke this afternoon.
The Roblin, Manitoba product was taken to the Brandon Regional Health Centre but McCrimmon says he's doing well today and feeling fine.
"We haven't been given any feedback as to how any of that has gone, other than to be told that there's no red flags and nothing alarming at this point," McCrimmon went on to say. "We're optimistic that it's not as serious as these things sometimes can be or what you sometimes left your mind fear."
McCrimmon spoke to reporters at Westman Place, as the Wheat Kings continued preparations for game four of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series scheduled for Friday night.
"Lots of (our) players have been on contact with Jayce today," says McCrimmon. "I think that gives them some peace of mind."
Hawryluk currently leads the Wheat Kings in playoff scoring with four goals and 8 points in three games. He also led the club in scoring during the regular season with 24 goals and 64 points.
Entering Friday night's game, Brandon has a commanding 3-0 lead in the best of seven opening round series.
