Marlins Sign NAIA All-American

Morehead City, N.C.- The Morehead City Marlins have signed Chris Good, a left-handed pitcher from Belhaven University, for the 2014 season.

Good, a 6'3, 230 pound native of Forney, Texas, transferred to Belhaven from the University of New Mexico following his redshirt freshman season. In his first year as a Blazer, Good was outstanding. He finished the season with a 14-3 record and a stellar 2.18 ERA. He was a workhorse, throwing 103 and 1/3 innings. He started 16 games, and recorded an incredible ten complete games and five shutouts. Following the season, Good was named NAIA Second Team All-American. Prior to the 2014 season, he was selected to the NAIA Preseason All-American team.

Good spent the 2012 and 2013 summers with the Nashua Silver Knights of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. In 2012, he went 6-2 with a 1.39 ERA and played a big part in the Silver Knights run to the league championship.

Good has appeared in eleven games this spring, including eight starts. He has a 4-1 record and a 4.37 ERA in 45 and 1/3 innings of work. He has only issued eight walks. The Blazers are off to a 26-7 start and are looking to make a run to the NAIA World Series.

The Marlins open the 2014 season on the road against the Fayetteville Swampdogs on May 27th. The home opener is the following night, May 28th, when they again take on the Swampdogs. The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 18th season in 2014, the CPL features 14 teams playing North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,100 alumni drafted and 65 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
