Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Prince Albert, SK - Edmonton Oil Kings forward said at the start of the team's first round series against the Prince Albert Raiders that the great thing about the playoffs is that you get a different hero every night. Tuesday in Prince Albert, it was Riley Kieser's turn.

Kieser scored with 2:32 to play to snap a 3-3 tie as the Oil Kings came back from 2-0 and 3-2 deficits to defeat the Raiders 4-3 and take a 3-0 lead in their WHL Eastern Conference quarter-final series.

"You have to have a hero every night to move on," said Oil Kings head coach Derek Laxdal.

"Riley's been a big part of our hockey club, that third line's been a big part. Everybody plays a role, everybody's a link in the chain that we have in this playoff drive."

The Oil Kings fell behind in the first period as Jayden Hart beat Jarry high in the first period and Leon Draisaitl scored on a harmless-looking backhand that bounced off the side of the net, off Oil Kings captain Griffin Reinhart and just across the goal line.

But the Oil Kings came on in the second as Brett Pollock scored his third goal of the series with a wicked slap shot on the power play, and Reinhart evened it at 2-2 with a wrister off a nifty set-up from Curtis Lazar in the slot.

Chance Braid put the Raiders back up 3-2 late in the second period, but in the third the Oil Kings came in waves again, scoring twice in the final seven minutes as Edgars Kulda worked the puck off the side wall and scored high on Raiders goalie Cole Cheveldave, setting up Kieser's heroics.

"We knew we could come back, we knew we could play better, and so we refocused and came out. We brought a little more intensity and I think it showed on the ice," Kieser said.

Tristan Jarry made 24 saves in the Edmonton for the win, while Cheveldave stopped 33 pucks as Edmonton outshot Prince Albert 37-27.

Kulda, Kieser and Reinhart all had a goal and an assist for the Oil Kings, while Ashton Sautner had two helpers on the game.

The Oil Kings will have a chance to finish off the series Wednesday night back in Prince Albert, where Laxdal will be looking for more of the same.

"Tomorrow night, we're looking for another hero."
