Long Island Ducks News Release

(Central Islip, N.Y., March 24, 2014) - The Long Island Ducks today announced that they have signed left-handed pitcher Matt Way. The two-time Atlantic League champion returns for his third season with the Ducks and in the Atlantic League.

"Matt brings another quality arm to our pitching staff," says Ducks president and general manager Michael Pfaff. "He was an important part of both championship teams, and we are happy to bring him back as we go for a 'three-peat.'"

Way first came to the Ducks in September of 2012 after he was acquired from the Laredo Lemurs of the American Association. The southpaw made two regular season starts and won both while striking out 19 and walking just four in 13 and one-third scoreless innings. His success carried over to the postseason where he went 2-0 in four games (two starts) with a 2.87 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 15 and two-thirds innings, helping Long Island to the Atlantic League title.

The Alaska native returned to Long Island in 2013 and started 16 games, posting a 4-5 record, 4.04 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 75 and two-thirds innings of work. He allowed two runs or less in six of his final seven starts before suffering a season-ending elbow injury in August. The 27-year-old previously spent two years in the Philadelphia Phillies organization, reaching as high as Single-A Clearwater in 2010. Entering 2014, the Washington State University alum has a career record of 29-21 with a 3.53 ERA and 374 strikeouts in 70 games (68 starts). Way was originally drafted by the Phillies in the fifth round of the 2009 amateur draft.

The Long Island Ducks are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at Bethpage Ballpark. For further information, call (631) 940-DUCK or visit www.liducks.com .
