Alaska Aces News Release
LAS VEGAS - Alex Belzile scored two goals while the Alaska Aces (40-17-5, 85 points) buried a pair of power play goals, cruising to a 4-1 victory over the Las Vegas Wranglers before 3,333 fans at Orleans Arena on Thursday.
The Aces reached the 40-win plateau for the fourth consecutive season and improved to 9-1-0 in the head-to-head series against Las Vegas, capitalizing off multi point games by Corey Syvret and Nick Mazzolini. Goaltender Gerald Coleman made 24 saves.
Syvret's snapper from the slot, with 56.8 seconds left in the first period, lifted the Aces to a 1-0 lead on a centering pass by Peter Sivak from the right boards.
Belzile's rebound goal at the right post, at 7:47 of the second period, boosted the Aces lead to 2-0 off a backdoor feed by Brett Findlay. Las Vegas got back into the game at 11:14 when Charlie Cook stashed his fourth goal of the season from the right circle. Less than two minutes later, Belzile's second goal of the game restored the Aces' two goal margin.
Belzile skated into the Las Vegas zone, with the Aces on a power play, and turned Cook around on a move to the outside. Belzile followed with a backhander from a sharp angle that glanced off Travis Fullerton and into the back of the net for a 3-1 cushion at 13:08.
Mazzolini buried another power play goal just 57 seconds later on a slap shot from the right circle, his 22nd goal of the season, for a 4-1 lead.
The Aces closed the game by outshooting Las Vegas, 12-6 in the third period. Fullerton made 39 saves and took the loss.
