Springfield Armor News Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - A late lead was snatched away in the final minute Thursday night as the Springfield Armor (19-25), presented by MGM Springfield, dropped a heartbreaking 107-104 decision to the Erie BayHawks (14-31) inside the MassMutual Center.

After Erie started hot, shooting 60 percent in the first quarter to build a six-point lead, Springfield's defense clamped down in the second stanza. The Armor held the BayHawks to just 14 points on 6-of-24 shooting to grab a 49-46 edge at the break.

With 10 offensive boards in the first half, Springfield cleaned up on the glass with 13 second chance points, but the BayHawks' 32 first-quarter points kept the visitors within three at halftime. Erie's Scott Suggs shot 6-of-8 from the field for a game-high 14 points through the first two quarters. Jeff Foote countered with 13 points of his own in the first half.

Springfield built its lead as high as five just 30 seconds into the third, but the BayHawks responded behind 12 points from Micah Downs in the quarter to take a 77-71 clip into the fourth. Erie's offense awoke to shoot 59 percent in the frame, outscoring the Armor 31-22.

A wire-to-wire fourth quarter saw Springfield roar back from 11 points down to tie the game at 96 before taking a 99-96 lead follow a pair of three-pointers from Khalif Wyatt for six of his game-high 22 points. That edge would be the last for the Armor as Erie put together a 4-0 run that moved the BayHawks into the driver's seat for the remainder of the game. Erie would protect its lead over the final few seconds, clipping Springfield, 107-104.

Along with Wyatt's 22, Foote orchestrated a 20-20 game with 20 points and 21 boards, while Willie Reed grabbed 19 off the glass to couple his 19 points. The Armor shot 20.7 percent from beyond the arc, connecting on just 6-of-29 attempts.

Downs led the BayHawks with 22 points and nine boards, but Erie's bench played a major role in the victory, outscoring the Armor's reserves 23-7.

The Armor will finish off their home slate tomorrow, March 21, at 7:00 p.m. against the Canton Charge for Fan Appreciation Night, presented by MGM Springfield. Tomorrow night's game is officially sold out! The Armor will not be selling or exchanging any more tickets for the regular season home finale.
