San Antonio Scorpions News Release

HOUSTON, Texas (Thursday, March 20, 2014) - The San Antonio Scorpions beat the Houston Dynamo 2-0 today in a scrimmage at Houston Sports Park. The result gives the Scorpions a 1-0-1 record against their MLS Texas rivals in 2014 after earning a 1-1 draw against FC Dallas at Toyota Field on March 2.

The Scorpions opened the scoring in the '55 with veteran forward Tomasz Zahorski finishing a clean look on goal. In the '85, forward Sainey Touray set up midfielder Walter Restrepo to put the game out of reach at 2-0. Scorpions Head Coach Alen Marcina said after the match that he was very satisfied with his how his team possessed the ball and created chances.

"It was good build-up play," said Marcina. "We're an excellent possession team, we kept the ball moving, we had more legs than they did towards the end. They were starting to give us space and time on the ball, we got in behind them and finished a couple of nice chances."

Marcina is glad his squad has gone undefeated against MLS opposition in the 2014 preseason, but that regardless of the opponent, he'll keep his team focused on their own goals and execution.

"We wanted to make sure that defensively, we were very organized," Marcina said after the match. "We knew that they were going to come out and being an MLS team, they would try to play a bit. We were able to shut them down in certain moments of the game and we created multiple opportunities at the end. I thought that we probably should have had a few more, but at the same time, keeping a clean sheet and scoring a couple of goals is always a good thing."

The Scorpions open the 2014 NASL season on April 12th at Toyota Field against Minnesota United FC. For information on Scorpions season tickets call 210-495-8686 or visit sascorpions.com.
