Otters Add Two New Pitchers

The Evansville Otters signed left-handed pitcher Jon Jones and traded for pitcher Preston Olsen on Wednesday.
Jones won a spot with the Evansville Otters after impressing Otters manager Andy McCauley in a team tryout last weekend in Nashville, Tennessee.
"He threw the ball very well with good velocity," said McCauley. "I expect Jon to compete for a starting rotation job."
Jones has played two seasons in his minor league career. He pitched for the London Rippers and Road Warriors during the 2012 Frontier League season. Jones also threw last season for Alexandria, El Paso and Laredo. He is glad to have found a home in Evansville.
"I'm really excited to join the Evansville Otters and play for Andy," said Jones. "My main goal is to be a guy that puts the team in position to win a ball game every time I'm on the mound and to enjoy getting to play the game I love."
The right-handed Olsen joins Evansville in a trade from the Sioux City Explorers of the American Association for a player to be named later.
"We are happy to have acquired Preston," added McCauley. "After a year in the American Association, I feel he can use that experience to help us on the mound."
The Otters start the 2014 season on the road at the Normal CornBelters on May 16. Otters Opening Day will take place on Wednesday, May 21st at historic Bosse Field with a unique doubleheader against the Rockford Aviators. First pitch will take place at 5:35 pm CT.
