Rebels Drop a 5-3 Decision in Medicine Hat

MEDICINE HAT, AB - The Rebels had a 3-game winning streak end Friday in Medicine Hat as the Tigers won 5-3 over Red Deer.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the first period on a goal by Curtis Valk.  The Rebels responded with goals from Scott Feser and Adam Musil to take a 2-1 lead, but the Tigers tied it up on a goal by Blake Penner.  It was 2-2 after the first period.

The Tigers scored a power play goal early in the second period when Curtis Valk picked up his second of the game.  Medicine Hat then added a shorthanded goal by Anthony Ast to go ahead 4-2, the Rebels got one from Wyatt Johnson to cut the lead to 4-3.

In the third period, the Rebels were outshot 11-4, the Tigers added an empty net goal from Valk for his hat trick. 

Final shots were 45-24 for the Tigers.  Medicine Hat was 1 for 4 on the power play; the Rebels were 0 for 2.  With the Rebels loss, combined with Prince Albert's win over Brandon, all three teams the Rebels, Raiders and Wheat Kings have 71 points. Only two out of those three teams will make the playoffs.  The Rebels and Wheat Kings have three games left, the Raiders have four games remaining in the regular season.

The Rebels are at home to the Kootenay Ice Wednesday for a 7:00PM game.  The broadcast on 106.7 The Drive begins at 6:30PM.
