Johnson Hummazing Player of the Week
March 17, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Windsor Spitfires News Release
Another outstanding week has earned Ben Johnson Hummazing Spitfires Player of the Week honours for the period ended Sunday, March 16th.
Johnson scored a goal in each of our three games, while playing a huge role on the PK with Brady Vail.
GAME BY GAME
MARCH 13TH - ER 3 @ WSR 2
Johnson tied the game at two with his 26th of the season near the midway point of the third period and was also a big reason the Spitfires were able to hold Erie's top-ranked power play to an 0-for-4 night.
MARCH 14TH - WSR 3 @ KIT 2:
Johnson again scored to tie the game with the Spitfires trailing 2-1; this time a power play goal with just 86 seconds remaining in regulation time.
MARCH 15TH - WSR 1 @ PLY 4
Johnson had the club's only goal while playing sparingly as the 10th forward, as each team sat or rested veteran players in a game that had no real implications.
CONSISTENTLY SOLID ALL-AROUND PLAY
Johnson has been playing the best hockey of his young career, particularly of late.
In 19 games since February 1st, he has 10 goals, including three game winners, and 10 assists, along with a +2 rating. He is widely considered one of the league's best skaters and two-way players.
BACKGROUND
Johnson, 19, is in his third full season with the Spitfires.
Passed over twice in the OHL Priority Selection, he was signed as a free agent back in May of 2011.
In 191 career regular season games, he has 66 goals and 62 assists, along with 106 penalty minutes.
Johnson is currently enjoying his best season statistically, with 28 goals and 25 assists with a +18 rating in 59 games.
He was taken in the 3rd Round (90th overall) by the New Jersey Devils in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in Pittsburgh.
