Syracuse Silver Knights Issue Statement in Regards to MISL Announcement

March 17, 2014 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL)
Syracuse Silver Knights News Release

Syracuse Pro Sports, LLC which owns and operates the Syracuse Silver Knights indoor professional soccer team has reached the end of its initial three year franchise agreement with the United Soccer Leagues (USL) which currently owns the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) "name". Additional teams from this past season have also reached the end of their initial franchise agreement with the USL including the Rochester Lancers, Baltimore Blast, and Missouri Comets.

A part of the USL franchise agreement is a requirement that the League consists of a minimum of six teams. Currently only Milwaukee, Pennsylvania, and St. Louis are under contract to play under the USL/MISL format for the 2014-2015 indoor season.

To date, Syracuse had not yet reached a decision on renewing their franchise agreement with the USL to participate in the MISL next year and was looking forward to negotiating with them before reaching a decision. Unfortunately, the statement released today from the USL has brought some concerns regarding the USL's ability to meet their required minimum standard of six teams.

Tommy Tanner, President and Coach, said "The Syracuse Silver Knights will play in the 2014-2015 indoor season as we anticipate the other teams who have been part of our league for the past three years will too. The Silver Knights will continue to play at the highest level of professional indoor soccer against the best teams in the country. However, at this point the league needs to still be determined, if any change is to occur at all."

Syracuse Pro Sports, LLC see the statement from the USL as an opportunity to explore other playing options until the USL reaches a determination on their go forward path. The Syracuse Silver Knights are committed to not let the USL's uncertainty stop our continued growth on the field and in the Central New York community.

Our fans and season ticket holders can rest assured that the 2014-2015 season will be played at The Oncenter War Memorial Arena and we will continue to build on the team Central New York has come to love and enjoy watching.

The Syracuse Silver Knights' goal remains to play at the highest level of professional indoor soccer available with the likes of Baltimore, Missouri, Rochester, and other elite teams from cities across the country nationwide all at an affordable family friendly event.
