Mississippi Surge News Release
Biloxi, MS - After a 5-1 blowout in favor of the Surge last night, it was the RiverKings who came out on top tonight.
The Surge looked to be continuing their hot streak after Brett Vandehogen scored the first goal of the game, giving the Surge a 1-0 lead just four minutes into the game. After Vandehogen's quick score, it was all RiverKings.
Phil Bronner got the puck past Surge net minder Mathieu Dugas first, assisted by Matt Smyth. Devin Mantha (Sean Jones, Matt Harrington) gave the RiverKings the lead, and Todd Hosmer sealed the deal on an empty net score with under half a minute to play.
Mathieu Dugas saved 36 of 38 for the Surge, going home with the loss, while Matthew Krahn saved 20 for 21 getting his team high 16th win of the season.
It wasn't all bad news for the Surge. After a Fayetteville loss, the Surge have clinched the 8th and final spot on the 2014 SPHL Playoffs.
The South Mississippi squad will face off against the Peoria Rivermen tomorrow afternoon, before their final two games next weekend at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
