SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- Bill Baker scored a pair of goals as the Mississippi RiverKings (28-21-4) fell to the Mississippi Surge (22-25-5) at home 5-1 on Friday night.

The teams traded goals in the first period on the power play. Bill Baker deflected a Joe Tolles shot past Dan McWhinney with the Surge on a five-on-three power play 10:21 into the first period to put the visitors on top. The RiverKings came back with the power play goal of their own. Matt Whitehead's deflection slipped past Mathieu Dugas 12:50 into the opening frame to tie the game at one going into the first intermission.

The Surge took control of the game in the second. Brett Vandehogen buried a Tom Craig pass past McWhinney from the slot to put the Surge on top 2-1. Four minutes later, the former RiverKing Craig slid the puck to the back of the net to give the visitors a two-goal edge headed into the second intermission.

In the third, the Surge netted another pair. Baker found the back of the net for the second time in the game with a wrist shot over the glove of McWhinney just under three minutes into the third, giving the Surge a 4-1 lead. In the waning moments of the period, the Surge notched their fifth goal of the game on Ian Boots' shot to take a 5-1 victory in Southaven.

Dan McWhinney (12-10-1) took the loss after stopping 23 of 28 shots against. Mathieu Dugas (14-12-2) stopped 31 of 32 shots against in the win.
