HIDALGO, Texas, March 12, 2014 - Dario Hunt led the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (27-13) with 27 points to top the Maine Red Claws (17-23) 128-113 tonight at State Farm Arena.

In addition to Hunt, Houston Rockets assignee Robert Covington scored a double-double 26 points, 14 rebounds. Maalik Wayns added 20 points. Gary Talton recorded 15 points, followed by Tony Bishop, Jr. with a double-double 14 points, 10 rebounds. Troy Daniels added 13 points and scored his 199th three-point shot of the 2013-14 season.

Daniel Orton led Maine with 26 points and 16 rebounds. Frank Gaines scored 25 points, and Tyshawn added 18 points.

The Vipers used the first quarter to build a 32-19 lead over the Red Claws. Wayns connected on three-pointer to give RGV its largest lead of the first half 35-20 to open the second quarter. However, Maine fought to close their deficit to 40-35 on a shot from behind the arc by Gaines with 7:33 on the clock. Then, Taylor connected on a layup and a shot at the line to take the 50-49 lead for Maine. At the half, the Vipers were on top 57-56.

RGV quickly rebuilt their lead and was up 78-63 midway through the third quarter. At the end of the third, the Vipers held a 98-84 advantage, and continued to hold the lead through the end of the game. RGV won 128-113.

The Vipers hit the road this weekend to face the Austin Toros Saturday, March 15. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. (CT). The game will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest.
