Vancouver Giants News Release
KENT, WA - The Vancouver Giants came up short in their comeback bid as the Seattle Thunderbirds took a 4-3 shootout victory Sunday night at the ShoWare Center.
Mason Geertsen and Cain Franson scored five seconds apart in the third period to overcome a 2-goal deficit and tie the game at 3.
Cain Franson's goal was his career-high 30th of the season. Franson joins Jackson Houck in the Giants' 30-goals club this season.
Joel Hamilton registered his 100th Western Hockey League point on an assist to Geertsen's goal.
Arvin Atwal had the other goal for the Giants.
Payton Lee made 43 saves in the game and was given second star honours.
Vancouver went 2-for-3 on the power play and had 35 shots on goal in the game.
The single-point the Giants earned locks them in the 7th seed which means they will face the 2nd seed team in the first round of the playoffs.
