Americans Come Back to Earn 6-4 Win
March 9, 2014 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
St. Charles Chill News Release
St. Charles, Mo. - The Chill jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and held a 4-2 lead midway through the second but the Allen Americans scored four-straight to pick up a comeback win by a final of 6-4 at the Family Arena on Sunday.
The Chill (11-40-6) jumped all over the Americans (32-20-4) right out of the locker room, taking a 1-0 lead on the ninth goal from Ryan Berard just 4:22 into the opening period and seconds later a misplay by Allen led to a breakaway for John Snowden who chased starting goalie Eric Levine out of the game with a goal to make it 2-0. The Chill were not done scoring as the forecheck picked up where it left off last night. Travis Ouellette intercepted the puck in the slot and fired in a shot to stretch the lead to 3-0 midway through the period. The Americans were awarded a penalty shot that Linus Lundin snuffed out but Allen would crack the scoreboard on a power play goal with four minutes left to post a 3-1 score at first intermission.
The Americans picked up their play in the second period and closed the scored to 3-2 midway through the period on the second goal from Phil Fox but St. Charles would respond on the power play. Berard picked up his second of the night, and tenth of the season, when he collected a deflected pass and fired a shot past Bryan Pitton for a 4-2 lead at the 13:37 mark of the second period. Jamie Schaafsma would have a response for the Americans four minutes later that closed the Chill lead to 4-3 through two periods and gave Allen the momentum that they would ride into the third.
The Americans would score three goals in the third, four straight in the final 23 minutes of the game, and the Chill offense would not have an answer as St. Charles fell by a final score of 6-4.
The Chill is back on the ice this coming weekend with a pair of games in Arizona against the Sundogs. You can catch the live action at Mr. Lucky's for the Away Game Watch Party. St. Charles is back at home the final weekend of the season March 28th and 29th with Pack The House Night and Fan Appreciation night that closes the inaugural season.
