Limonta Returning to Revs as Part of Latest Signings

York Revolution News Release

(York, Pa.): The York Revolution have announced three more signings for the upcoming season, inking returning slugger Johan Limonta, catcher Alberto Espinosa, and right-handed pitcher Wes Roemer. The signings were made official today by manager Mark Mason. York now has 14 players under contract for the 2014 season with the start of the team's spring training camp just over a month away.

Limonta returns to York for a third season, already with several success stories under his belt. The 30-year-old escaped Cuba, defecting to the United States where he was originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 20th round of the 2006 draft. Limonta steadily climbed through the Mariners organization, reaching Triple-A Tacoma where he batted .319 with 14 home runs and 84 RBI in 108 games in 2011. He returned to the Mariners' top affiliate in 2012 and batted .279 in 41 games for the Rainiers while passing his United States citizenship test that summer. After a torrid stint in the Mexican League where he batted .384, Limonta signed with York and was a key piece of the Revs' postseason push late in the 2012 season.

The versatile first baseman and outfielder returned to York at the start of last season, and after batting .295 in 16 games with the Revs, earned a contract with the San Diego Padres where he spent the rest of the season at Double-A San Antonio. Limonta, who connected on a grand slam for the Revs' first home run last season, helped lift the Missions to a Texas League championship with a dramatic grand slam in the series clincher against Tulsa last September.

"'Limo' came to York last year with the focus on getting back with a Major League organization," commented Mason. "He was getting phone calls all season from Mexico but he stayed true to himself and it paid off by getting that opportunity with the Padres. We are excited to have him back and to provide another opportunity for him. He displayed what the Atlantic League is about and I was happy it worked out for him."

Espinosa enters his first season in the Atlantic League and joins Salvador Paniagua on the Revs roster at the catching position. The 27-year-old Miami native spent his first two professional seasons in the Kansas City Royals organization after being made a 15th round draft choice in 2008. His last three seasons have been spent in the American Association where he has combined to bat .263 with 19 home runs. After suiting up for a combined five different teams on that circuit between 2011 and 2012, Espinosa settled in to spend all of last season in Sioux City.

Roemer was a first round draft choice of the Arizona Diamondbacks out of Cal State Fullerton in 2007. The righty spent his first five years in Arizona's farm system, reaching Triple-A Reno in 2010 and 2011. A career starter, the 27-year-old used four starts in the American Association to earn a contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2012, where he went 4-2 with a 2.73 ERA for Double-A Chattanooga, pitching out of the bullpen for the first time since his initial pro season. The Los Angeles native has enjoyed his best success at the Double-A level with a lifetime 23-19 record and a 3.89 ERA. Roemer split last season between the Can-Am and American Association.

The 2014 season begins on April 24 when the Revs host the Camden Riversharks at Santander Stadium. Full-season plans and mini plans ranging from 10 games to 45 games, as well as various voucher packages and gift cards are on-sale now.
