Portland Pirates News Release

Lewiston, ME - The Portland Pirates return to the ice Friday to host the Albany Devils for the first time this season. Puck drops at 7 PM for the third meeting between the two teams. So far, Portland and Albany have split the season series, with their last matchup coming in December.

The Pirates last played Sunday, defeating the Hartford Wolfpack 5-1 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. Lucas Lessio and Brendan Shinnimin both scored twice to lead the Pirates offense, with Tobias Rieder scoring the additional goal. Mark Visentin was solid in net, stopping 27 of the 28 shots he faced in the victory. Mark Louis had three assists in the game, tying a season career high for the recently converted defenseman.

Albany faced the Providence Bruins in their last game, dropped a 3-2 decision in a shootout. Tim Sestito and David Wohlberg were the goal scorers for the Devils in regulation, but the Bruins tied the game in the third and shut out the Devils in the shootout for the win. Keith Kinkaid made 36 saves on 38 shots in the defeat. The Devils have dropped two straight games, having lost to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 2-1 last Saturday.

The Devils were victorious in their last meeting with the Pirates, defeating them 4-1 on December 28th. Andy Miele had the Pirates' goal, and Mark Visentin made 23 saves on 26 shots in the defeat. Joe Whitney, Seth Helgeson, Mike Sislo and Rod Pelly were the goal scorers for Albany.

The Pirates roster was shaken up at the NHL Trade Deadline, with David Rundblad, Mathieu Brisebois, Chris Brown, and Rostislav Klesla dealt in two separate deals. The Phoenix Coyotes acquired Martin Erat and John Mitchell from the Washington Capitals for Brown, Klesla, and a 2015 fourth round pick, with Mitchell joining the Pirates and eligible to suit up for Portland tonight.
