March 3, 2014 - American Association (AA)
Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release

The Amarillo Sox added three players to the 2014 roster Monday, including two key pieces from the exciting 2013 season. The Sox resigned OF/1B Joe Weik and RHP Josh Giles, and added starting pitcher Joe Zeller in a flurry of signings.

Weik was named the American Association Rookie of the Year in 2013 after batting .327 with seven home runs and a team-high 81 RBI. Weik appeared in 97 games for the Sox, splitting time between first base and as a corner outfielder.

Giles appeared in 43 games for the Sox in 2013, and led the bullpen with a 3.05 ERA. Giles served primarily as a set-up man, picking up one save. He finished the year strong, not allowing an earned run over his final 13 appearances of the season.

Zeller is expected to join the Sox starting rotation for 2014. He went 8-8 with a 3.23 ERA for three different independent teams in 2013, including stops in Gary and Sioux City of the American Association.
