Wenatchee Wild News Release

Wenatchee, WA. - The Wenatchee Wild played the Kenai River Brown Bears Saturday night at the Town Toyota Center, scoring twice in each period en route to a 6-1 win in front of 3,244 fans.

Joseph Kaszupski (Henderson, Nevada) opened the scoring for the Wild by splitting the defense and wristing one high to the glove side. The unassisted goal at 10:29 put Wenatchee up 1-0. Moments later, on the power play, Mitch Demario (Franklin, Wisconsin) scored to the same spot. Matthew Nuttle (Marilla, New York) assisted on the goal at 11:14, which spelled the end of the night for Kenai River goaltender Zach Quinn and put the Wild up 2-0.

Brendan Harris (Las Vegas, Nevada) scored 5:10 into the third, slipping a wrister under the goaltender and into the net. Kaszupski assisted, putting Wenatchee on top, 3-0. Demario scored a power play goal from Kaszupski at 17:31, driving one home from the left wing circle, giving the Wild a 4-0 lead through two.

In the third, Jack Gessert scored for the Brown Bears from Matt Rudin and Jacob Davidson at 1:36 to draw within 4-1, but Wenatchee would get that one back just over two minutes later, as David Powlowski (Rochester, New York) banged one home at the right post. Christian Salvato (La Verne, California) drew the lone assist at 3:45, giving the Wild a 5-1 lead. Powlowski would score another power play goal, this one from the bottom of the right circle. The goal, coming at 13:48, was assisted by Jakob Ahlgren (Fergus Falls, Minnesota), putting Wenatchee up by five, at 6-1. The Wild would not let Kenai River back into the contest, winning by the 6-1 count, their sixth straight win over the Brown Bears. "All the way around, that was a tough effort on our part" said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach Bliss Littler. "I thought all aspects were pretty good, that we got our nose dirty right from the start. When we do that, we give ourselves a chance. Again tomorrow we'll play a very desperate team; it'll be a great challenge for us. I'm looking forward to it."

Wenatchee outshot Kenai River 39-22 for the game. Chase Perry (Andover, Minnesota) made 21 saves for the Wild, while Quinn and Kris Oldham combined for 33 saves in the Brown Bears' net. Wenatchee was 4-for-8 on the power play and 5-of-6 on the penalty kill.

Wenatchee is now 27-20-6; Kenai River is now 24-21-6.

Wenatchee hosts the Brown Bears for one more game tomorrow, Sunday, March 2nd, starting at 3:05pm PST. Then, on Friday and Saturday, March 7th and 8th, the Wild hosts the Midwest Division leading Fairbanks Ice Dogs, with puck drop at 7:05pm PST both nights.
