Regina Pats News Release
Game #64
Wednesday, February 26th
Puck Drop: 7:00 p.m. CST
Regina Pats (35-22-3-3) Swift Current Broncos (30-24-2-6)
Head-to-Head
The Regina Pats (35-22-3-3) and Swift Current Broncos (30-24-2-6) begin a pivotal home and home tonight in Swift Current. This is the fifth of six meetings between the two clubs this season. Their last saw the Broncos take a 4-3 win in the shootout despite being outshot 49-33 by the Pats. Kyle Burroughs leads the Pats with four points, all assists, in the season series. Three Broncos (Cave, Honka, Gordon) have eight points against the Pats this season with Colby Cave having found the back of the net three times. Coming into this contest, the Pats hold an 8 point lead on the Broncos for the top spot in the East Division having won five straight games and ten of their last twelve. The Broncos are 4-6-0-0 in their last ten games including Saturday's 5-3 win over Red Deer. This evening's game can be heard on 620 CKRM starting at 6:35 p.m. CST.
Lead Up: Pats Blow Out Hurricanes 8-0
After an evenly matched opening eleven minutes, the Pats started to take over after the media time out. Dyson Stevenson blew the game wide open with a hat-trick in the first and the Pats didn't look back. Stevenson went on to tally four while Morgan Klimchuk posted a five point night. Patrick D'Amico scored twice with Braden Christoffer picking up a single. Dawson MacAuley made 29 saves for his fourth shutout of the season in the 8-0 win.
A Positive Goal Differential
Since the 18:44 mark of the first period of their home opener against Swift Current on September 19th; the Pats were in the negative in the goals for/against category (including shootout winners). That changed when the Pats won in a shootout Saturday against Calgary. Yesterday's game against Lethbridge was the first of the season the Pats entered with a positive goal differential (215 GF, 214 GA). After their big victory last night, the Pats are now a +9 on the season (223/214).
Keep Calm and Stevens-On
Dyson Stevenson set a new career high putting four goals on the board against Lethbridge last night. Three of them came in a 6:08 span in the first period for his second career hat-trick against the Hurricanes and third overall. The four goals brought the Shaunavon, SK product into the Pats lead for the season (33) with 11 of those coming in February.
Chasing Warren Fisher
Dawson MacAuley picked up his fourth shutout of the season last night against the Hurricanes. That puts him one behind Warren Fisher's mark of five in the 1967-68 season. Pats goalies have combined for six shutouts in the 2013-14 season.
Who to Watch on Swift Current
Eetu Laurikainen was the difference maker the last time these two teams met. He made 46 saves, then stopped all three Pats shooters in the shootout to hand Swift Current the victory. The Finnish netminder has a 2.83 GAA and 0.918 SV% on the season to go with four shutouts.
