Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Edmonton, AB - This time when the Edmonton Oil Kings got pushed, they pushed back.
The Oil Kings erased a 2-1 first-period deficit to record a 5-2 victory over the Medicine Hat Tigers Tuesday night in Medicine Hat, playing what head coach Derek Laxdal called "a great road effort."
"We scored the first goal and our guys responded well to get back in the second period, then a couple good penalties kills in the third to close it out," he said.
Edmonton got goals from Edgars Kulda, Henrik Samuelsson, Riley Kieser (shorthanded), Ashton Sautner and Mads Eller, who wreaked havoc on the Tigers throughout the game with his speed.
"He played great. He created a lot of energy, drove their (defence) back and wide with some speed," Laxdal said. "I thought he was a huge part of our game tonight."
Sautner added three assists for the Oil Kings, tying a team record for points in a game by a defenceman, while Samuelsson, with two points, set a new career high with 81 on the season.
Tristan Jarry made 19 saves for his 39th win of the season. His counterpart, Marek Langhamer, stopped 36 shots for the Tigers as the Oil Kings outshot them 41-21.
The Oil Kings and Tigers will renew hostilities Wednesday night in the back half of a home-and-home, and Laxdal noted his squad needed to be ready for a strong effort from an angry Medicine Hat side.
"They're going to have some push back and we've got to be ready tomorrow night," he said. "We've got to build on tonight."
