February 21, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release

Sami Aittokallio was nearly perfect, stopping 34 of 35 shots in net for the Lake Erie Monsters, but the Monsters (21-24-0-5) fell in a shootout by a 2-1 score to the Iowa Wild (22-19-6-4) Friday before a Quicken Loans Arena crowd of 11,055. Andrew Agozzino scored for the Monsters, who held a 1-0 lead for 2:47 in the first period. The Monsters have points in back-to-back games, but are winless in three games against Iowa this season. The Monsters and Wild meet for the fourth and final time this season Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Quicken Loans Arena.

Agozzino scored the game's first goal at the 8:58 mark of the first period, unassisted. Agozzino won a race up the left side of the ice, and wristed a puck past Iowa goalie John Curry to the far side of the net to give the Monsters a 1-0 lead. At the 11:45 mark, Iowa tied the game with a power play goal. The rebound from a Brett Bulmer shot darted straight to Iowa defenseman Steven Kampfer in the right circle, and Kampfer immediately snapped a shot from the faceoff dot past Aittokallio to tie the game at 1-1.

The game remained tied for the duration of regulation and through a five-minute overtime period, forcing the game to a shootout.

Carson McMillan and Kampfer scored in the shootout for Iowa, while Curry stopped all four Monsters shooters to secure the two points for the Wild.

Aittokallio is 10-11-2 in net for the Monsters after stopping 34 of 35 shots and three-of-five shootout attempts. Curry stopped 32 of 33 shots in net for Iowa, and improves to 7-4-2 in net this season.

The Monsters and Iowa play at 7:00 PM Saturday at Quicken Loans Arena.
