Mississauga Steelheads News Release

Mississauga, ON - With the OHL season heading into crunch time, the Peterborough Petes made the trek down the 401 to take on the Steelheads at the Hershey Centre. Both teams, which are 6th and 7th respectively in the Eastern Conference, are looking for a strong finish heading into the playoffs.

The Steelheads were off to a slow start in this one, managing just 1 shot through the first 8 minutes of the third. Despite the slow start, Spencer Martin was strong in net and able to keep the Petes at bay. The Steelheads would pick up the intensity in the final 10 minutes, creating a number of good scoring chances. The best chance for Mississauga came off the stick of Nathan Bastian, who was unable to finish a slick cross-crease pass from Andrew Goldberg. Both goalies were strong in the first, stopping all shots that came their way. The shots on goal after the first period were 13-8 in favour of the Petes.

The Petes would open the scoring at 4:49 of the second, as Stephen Nosad scored his 8th of the year to give the Petes a 1-0 lead. After picking up the lone assist on the Pete's first goal, Anthony Stefano would score his 11th of the year to open up a 2 goal lead for Peterborough; assists on the goal went to Matt Spencer and Nelson Armstrong. Just over a minute later, the Petes would add to their lead as Nick Ritchie scored his 32nd goal of the year to put the Petes up 3-0. The Steelheads were not able to create many scoring chances in the 2nd and Petes' goalie Matt D'Agostini turned aside all shots headed his way. The score after 2 periods was 3-0 Peterborough. Shots on goal were 27-11 in favour of the Petes.

The third period was a quiet one for both teams, with the lone goal coming late in the period as Stefano scored his 2nd goal of the game and 12th of the year to ice the game for the Petes. The Petes got the best of the Steelheads on this night, outshooting them 40-15 with a final score 4-0.

The Steelheads are back in action this Sunday as the Niagara IceDogs come to town for another key playoff matchup.
