Sarnia Sting News Release
In an effort raise funds to purchase an AEDfor the Sarnia-Lambton area, the Sarnia Sting have teamed up with the Heart & Stroke Foundation for Heart & Stroke night at the RBCCentre. Sting players will take the ice on Saturday, February 22nd for a matchup against theOttawa 67's, dawning the custom Heart & Stroke jerseys. To kick off the evening a group of young, local heart & stroke survivors will take the ice for the ceremonial puck drop.
The goal is to raise $4,000 so that these funds can be used to purchase an AED(Automated External Defibrillator) which will be placed in the Sarnia-Lambton community. Kim VanHooft of the Heart & Stroke Foundation expresses the importance of setting such high goals, "we are excited to be participating in this partnership game with the Sarnia Sting organization for our 3rd year. $4,000 raised will cover the cost of theAED, the mounting cabinetry, training of 6-8 people in CPR, inclusion into the local PAD Program, the OntarioAED registry, and a plaque mounted beside theAED cabinet advertising the donor or sponsorship." The Heart & Stroke Foundation have successfully placed 65AED's in the local community, and realize the importance of continuing to do so.
When asked about the decision to partner up for this initiative, Sting VP of Sales & Marketing Brian Prout maintains, "It's an exceptional cause, and one that continues to become more and more relevant in today's society. In recent years we have seen several young athletes affected by heart issues, one of which was a recent graduate of the OHL, Brett MacLean. The Sarnia Sting are fortunate enough to be in a position to support the cause and assist in supplying the local community with anotherAED."
Fundraising includes ticket sales and an online auction for the game-worn Heart & Stroke Jerseys. The online auction will open once players take the ice. Visit http://stingauction.sarnia.com/ to place your bids.
The Heart & Stroke Foundation will be in attendance at the game and fans will have a chance to win an autographed Anthony DeAngelo jersey just by making a minimum donation of $2.00; the winner will be drawn during the 2nd intermission.  All money raised through the online auction and the DeAngelo jersey will go towards the purchase of theAED.
