Sockers to Face Toros De Mexico in Playoff Opener on Saturday

The San Diego Sockers will open the 2014 Ron Newman Cup playoff chase on Saturday, February 22nd when they host the Toros de Mexico in the Pacific Division semi-finals. The winner will advance to face the Las Vegas Legends for the Pacific Championship on March 1st, while the loser's season will be over.

The Sockers (13-3) finished the regular season tied atop the Pacific Division with the Las Vegas Legends (13-3), who earned the top seed for the playoffs based on head-to-head aggregate goals. The Sockers and Legends each beat one another at the other's home field during the regular season. San Diego lost to Las Vegas, Dallas and Monterrey in the regular season, while Las Vegas lost to San Diego, Dallas and Toros.

The Toros (9-7), based in Tijuana, qualified for the playoffs for the second straight season after hammering Bay Area Rosal 27-2 in their final game. Toros finished the regular season third in the PASL in total goals (175), trailing only Las Vegas (180) and Chicago (179, game in hand). Tijuana went 6-2 at their home field Unisantos Park, but struggled to a 3-5 road record. The Toros scored 121 of their 175 goals at home (69%).

The PASL Ron Newman Cup Championships will take place at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, hosted by the Chicago Mustangs, on March 15thand 16 th. The Pacific Division champion will face the Central Division champion in one March 15th national semi-final, while the host Mustangs (15-0) will face a second qualifier from the Eastern Division in the second national semi-final. The two winners will square off for the Ron Newman Cup on March 16th.

Tickets for the Sockers-Toros Pacific Division semi-final playoff game are available at (866) 799-GOAL, online at sockers.com, or at the Valley View Casino Center box office on game night. Season ticket holders have until February 18th to reserve their current seats for the playoffs. There is no price hike for the playoffs. After February 18th, those seats unclaimed by season ticket holders will be released to the general buying public.
