Pirates Meet Phantoms for Sunday Rematch

Lewiston, ME-The Portland Pirates return home for the first time in two weeks as they host the Adirondack Phantoms in a rematch of Friday's game. Puck drop is 4 pm at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston for the second and final meeting between the Pirates and Phantoms during the regular season.

The Pirates' last game was in Glens Falls, a 3-2 victory over the Phantoms in a shootout. Despite the Pirates allowing 50 shots on goal for the first time in 5 years, Mark Visentin made a career high 53 saves, the most in the American Hockey League in 4 years. Chris Brown and Tobias Rieder scored for Portland and Lucas Lessio had the shootout winner in the third round. Brandon Gormley had an assist to extend his point streak to 4 games The win snapped a 2 game losing streak for the Pirates on the road.

The Phantoms played last night in Albany, dropping a 4-1 decision to the Devils. Chris VandeVelde scored the lone Phantoms goal, while Yann Denis made 27 saves in the loss. 1 day after putting 55 shots on the Pirates net, the Phantoms could only manage 16 shots total on Albany goaltender Scott Wedgewood.

The Pirates will look to win their first home game of 2014 in their 9th game at the Colisee since the new year. Portland's power play has been an important part of their recent play, improving from 17.7% to 19.7% since January 10th. The Pirates have scored on the man advantage in their last 6 home games to help improve their percentage.

Brick Wall: Mark Visentin's stellar performance on Friday continued a trend of improvement for both Pirates goaltenders, with both Louis Domingue and Visentin recovering from a rough stretch. A strong performance in next against a shot happy Phantoms team will be vital to the Pirates ending their record home winless streak.
