SkyHawks Take down Lightning for Third Time

February 13, 2014 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Ottawa SkyHawks News Release

In the second last road game of this regular season, the SkyHawks land at Budweiser Gardens in London to take on the two-time NBL champs, the London Lightning.

This is the first meeting against Forward Jermaine Johnson since his release and acquisition by the Lightning. On this occasion, the move proved to be in the favor of the SkyHawks, as the ball game flowed freely to beat the Lightning 112-102. This gets the SkyHawks at .500 (18-18).

The SkyHawks started off strong with Ryan Anderson knocking down two 3-pointers from the get go, and Fred Sturdivant throwing down two monster dunks in the first quarter. The quarter closed with the SkyHawks up 27-25.

It was a back and forth affair the entire first half with no team backing down. Ottawa got a run early in the second quarter but then London came right back with a run of their own in the last 4 minutes to take the lead 48-44 by the half.

The second half started with Jamie Vanderbeken hitting a 3-pointer that started a momentum shift, while Fred Sturdivant slammed his 3rd dunk of the night.

Mike Rose then unleashed in the second half dropping team high 18 points (along with Justin Tubbs). Rose was pleased with the game as a whole, "we played well together and it's always fun playing against old teammates and friends", referring to former SkyHawks Johnson. Jerice Crouch added "we miss him and wish him all the best, though we're glad we got the win".

The SkyHawks have now beaten the London Lightning in their last three match ups, and the final game of the regular season will be played back in Ottawa this Saturday February 15.

SkyHawks return home to play back to back weekend games at Canadian Tire Centre:
