Hockey Playoffs in February? Plymouth Whalers Hosts Kitchener on Saturday at Compuware Arena

PLYMOUTH - Although the Ontario Hockey League playoffs don't officially start until March 20, there will be playoff-intensity on Saturday when the Plymouth Whalers host the Kitchener Rangers at 7:05 pm at Compuware Arena (7 pm, 88.1FM WSDP).

Plymouth (20-28-0-5, 45 points) holds on to the eighth and final playoff spot in the OHL's Western Conference race. Kitchener (19-32-1-1, 40 points) is five points behind.

CONFERENCE STANDINGS

Both teams come into the weekend with 53 games played and 15 games remaining in the schedule. Plymouth plays in Saginaw on Friday. Kitchener hosts Mississauga on Friday.

The Whalers and Rangers have split two games previously this season. Plymouth defeated Kitchener, 4-2, on Oct. 12 at Compuware Arena; Kitchener beat Plymouth, 5-1, on Jan. 24 in Kitchener.

PLYMOUTH SCHEDULE : Friday at Saginaw (7 pm, 88.1FM WSDP); Saturday vs. Kitchener at 7:05 pm at Compuware Arena); Monday, 2/17 at Guelph (2 pm, 88.1FM WSDP); Wednesday, 2/19 at Sault Ste. Marie (7 pm, 88.1FM WSDP).

WEISS PRACTICING WITH THE WHALERS : Detroit Red Wing Stephen Weiss is practicing with the Whalers this week as he rehabs from an injury.

Weiss played in Plymouth from 1999-02 and is 11th on the Whalers' all-time scoring list with 89 goals and 134 assists for 223 points over 172 games.

Plymouth practices are open to the media and public. The Whalers will be practicing at Compuware Arena on Thursday from 1:45-3:15 pm and next Tuesday at the same time.
