Orangeville A's News Release

Brampton, ON. - The Brampton A's beat the London Lightning 107-106. The A's record improves to 22-10. London falls to 20-14.

It was a battle between two of the top teams in the National Basketball League of Canada, as the Brampton A's hosted the two time defending champs, the London Lightning at the Powerade Centre. This was the sixth matchup between the two teams with a even 3-3 split.

The A's started the game a little out of sync, as they had an uncharacteristic 11 first half turnovers. This was the primary reason they were down 54-45. The A's did show why they are ranked number one in the NBL for rebounding; by out rebounding London 48-40, this included 15 offensive rebounds. The A's also added another five three pointers to their league best total. The London Lightning weren't able to hit any three pointers in the game; this was in large part due to Brampton's number one three point defense. The Brampton crowd as always entertained as Brampton increased its league leading offensive output scoring 107 points.

Brampton had six players in double digits led by A's swingman Jordan Hamilton with 18 points on 6-9 shooting, Hamilton who has been on a tear lately also hit 3 three-pointers and was perfect from the line. Brampton power forward Flenard Whitfield had a double double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Whitfield shot 6-9 in the game, making him third in the NBL in field goal percentage, at 55%. A's point guard tandem of Evaldas Zabas and Melvin Council chipped in with 15 and 11 points respectively. But the player of the game was A's shooting guard and MVP candidate Cedric Moodie. Moodie had 22 points and 7 rebounds, including the last six points and the go ahead basket over London defender Williamson with 18 seconds left.

Game Notes: The A's are still without starting forward Jameson Tipping who is on the injured reserved list (foot). A's forward Adrian Harrison was activated.

The A's next home game at the Powerade Centre is Saturday, February 15th, at 7:00pm against the Windsor Express.
