February 8, 2014 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Orangeville A's News Release

Brampton, ON. The Brampton A's beat Saint John in overtime 126-124. The A's record goes to 21-10. The Mill Rats fall to 19-13.

It was a matchup between two of the top teams in the National Basketball League of Canada, as the Brampton A's hosted the Atlantic Division leaders, the Saint John Mill Rats. It was a reunion of sorts as the A's Assistant Coach David Cooper and players Cavell Johnson, Melvin Council and Kevin Francis were members of the Mill Rats last year. The game was the second of a double header as Brampton's Emergency Services game featured the Peel Regional Police vs Brampton Fire Services.

This was the A's first game after a week layoff, but the rust didn't show as the A's won the first quarter 32-28. The A's won four out of five quarters, including the thrilling overtime period. The A's increased their league leading points per game offense with 126 points on 46% field goals for the game. The A's also increased their league leading three point shooting with 14 three-pointers on 39% shooting. The A's showed why they are the best rebounding team in the league, with an incredible 67 rebounds which helped them take their season high of 105 shot attempts.

Brampton had seven players in double digits, led by A's swingman Jordan Hamilton with 22 points on 7-10 shooting, Hamilton also hit four three-pointers and was perfect from the line. Shooting guard Cedric Moodie had a double double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Moodie also added 3 three-pointers, making him top five in the NBL. The player of the game was centre Cavell Johnson, who had a double double with 17 points and 13 rebounds, including the game tying baby jump hook sending the game into overtime. Johnson also had the game winning offensive rebound dunk that brought the lively Brampton crowd to their feet.

Game Notes: The A's are still without starting forward Jameson Tipping, who is on the injured reserved list (foot).

The A's next home game at the Powerade Centre is Monday, February 10th, at 7:00pm against the London Lightning.
