Blades Trombley Named Player of the Month
February 4, 2014 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release
SASKATOON, SK - The Saskatoon Blades are pleased to announce that goaltender Troy Trombley has been named as the team's Heinrichs Jewellery Player Of The Month for January.
The product of Sherwood Park, Alberta joins Nikita Scherbak (September/October), former-Blade Collin Valcourt (November) and Chase Clayton (December) as winners of the award so far during the 2013-14 season.
The 6'6, 215 pound Trombley posted a record of 4-5-0-1 during the month of January for Saskatoon. Along with that, he registered a .912 save percentage and a 3.63 goals against average. It was a busy month on the ice and that meant the goaltender was facing a lot of rubber. Trombley stopped at least 35 shots in 9 of his 12 appearances during the month of January. On the season, Trombley is currently 9th overall in the WHL in regards to saves after making 1088 heading into Tuesday's action against Kootenay.
As it stands, Trombley is already in uncharted territory as far as his WHL career goes. The 19 year old has appeared in 32 games, twice as many as his previous WHL career high. His 1804 minutes played are also well above the mark of 863 that he set last season with the Tri-City Americans. The Saskatoon goaltender is expected to stay busy for the last portion of the season too, as fellow Blades netminder Alex Moodie continues to be out while nursing a lower body injury.
Trombley will be presented with a watch from Heinrichs Jewellery prior to the Blades home game on February 7th, when they play host to the Medicine Hat Tigers.
