Late Kingston Goal Sinks Plymouth Whalers, 3-2

PLYMOUTH - Sam Bennett's power play goal at 19:08 of the third period and 28th of the year snapped a 2-2 tie and the Kingston Frontenacs defeated the Plymouth Whalers. 3-2, in a fight-filled game played Friday before 2,224 at Compuware Arena.

GAME SUMMARY

Bennett - the #1 North American skater for the 2014 National Hockey League Draft as rated by the National Hockey League's Central Scouting Bureau - figured in on all three Kingston goals as the game's first star with his game winning goal and assists on the other Frontenacs goal.

Spencer Watson (26th) and Corey Pawley (6th) also scored for Kingston, while Zach Lorentz (20th) and Ryan Hartman (14th) scored for Plymouth.

Plymouth - now 17-27-0-5, 39 points - remains in eighth place and the final playoff spot in the OHL's Western Conference race. The Whalers remain three points ahead of ninth place Sarnia (15-29-1-5, 36 points) and five points ahead of tenth place Kitchener (16-30-1-1, 34 points). Sarnia lost, 6-1, in Guelph on Friday. Kitchener lost, 6-4, to Barrie.

Plymouth remains at home on Saturday, hosting Belleville at 7:05 pm at Compuware Arena (TV, 7 pm, CN-900).
