January 31, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs fell 2-1 to the Mississauga Steelheads in a goaltenders' duel in Mississauga on Friday night.

The IceDogs would fall behind 1-0 3:16 in as Mississauga would open the scoring with a powerplay marker. The IceDogs would battle back however, as Zach Wilkie would rip home his first career OHL goal just over four minutes later to make it 1-1. The score would remain that way through the rest of the first as the teams headed to the dressing rooms all tied up. Shots after one were 13-10 Mississauga.

In the second Mississauga would find the back of the net 5:09 into the period to retake the lead at 2-1. The IceDogs would pressure the Steelheads looking for the equalizer, firing 23 shots in the frame, but would be unable to beat Mississauga starter Spencer Martin and would head to the third down one. Shots after 40 minutes were 33-20 IceDogs.

The IceDogs would continue to press for the equalizer in the third, but it was not to be as a scoreless period would result in a tough 2-1 loss for the IceDogs. Final shots were 39-22 IceDogs, as Jon D'Ilario was solid for the IceDogs stopping 20 shots in the loss.

The IceDogs will now return to St. Catharines where they will look to close out the weekend on a strong note tomorrow night, when they play host to the visiting Kitchener Rangers. Tickets for this and all other IceDogs home games are still available and can be purchased at any IceDogs ticketing location!
