Omaha Beef News Release

Omaha, NE, January 22, 2014: Adding to the Beef's 15th anniversary season excitement, Omaha returns one of the most popular players in franchise history receiving All Pro Defensive Back Cortney Grixby in a trade from the Lincoln Haymakers. Grixby, a former Husker, has been recognized for several seasons as one of the most electric playmakers in indoor football. Beef Head Coach Steve Heimann commented on what this means to Beef Nation. "We know the Omaha Community will be excited to see Courtney back in Omaha. His valuable veteran experience and leadership on the field will be essential to our team's success."

Grixby was resigned by Lincoln this fall after a stellar season last year where he was awarded All-CPIFL team honors as a Defensive Back. Grixby was also voted Special Teams Player of the Week twice and Defensive Player of the Week once last season. Grixby led the Haymakers last season with 6 interceptions and played a key role on special teams recording more kick return yards than any other Haymakers player. The trade was announced this morning at 10:00am.

Grixby will return to Omaha's defensive secondary as the Haymakers receive two conditional picks from the Beef to be determined later this season. Last season the Haymakers ran into a lack of depth late in the season. This trade aims to sure up a Lincoln roster that is focused on becoming versatile and younger. Lincoln Coach Cory Ross commented on the trade "There's no discounting the fact Courtney is a proven veteran but we are focused on building our younger players, and we are confident with the talent on our roster."

This trade will add yet another chapter in the heated Omaha vs. Lincoln rivalry as Grixby and the Beef will face the Haymakers Friday, February 21st inside the Ralston Arena. Keep up with all the Beef news at beeffootball.com and on the team's official Facebook and Twitter accounts.
