Philadelphia Union Select Four in Final Rounds of MLS SuperDraft

Chester, Pa. (Jan. 21, 2013) - Philadelphia Union drafted four players today in the third and fourth rounds of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft. The Union selected University of Redlands defender Richard Marquez (Rd. 3, #6), Saint Louis University midfielder Alex Sweetin (Rd. 3, #8), University of Akron midfielder Aodhan Quinn (Rd. 3, #14) and Wake Forest University midfielder/forward Luca Gimenez (Rd. 4, #6).

Marquez, 21, earned NSCAA All-American honors in his Junior (2012) and Senior (2013) seasons. Additionally, the defender was named to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) First-Team in each of his four years at the University of Redlands. In his Senior year, Marquez helped lead the Bulldog's to six shutouts and a .85 GAA en route to becoming the only SCIAC member to earn NSCAA All-American honors.

Sweetin, 22, made 76 appearances for Saint Louis University, starting in all but three of them. Over four years at the school, the midfielder knocked in 18 goals while registering 22 assists. Sweetin also was a First-Team All-Atlantic 10 selection (2013), a two-time Second-Team All-Atlantic 10 member (2012, 2010) and named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year (2009).

Quinn, 21, boasts a decorated resume from his time at the University of Akron, where he received NSCAA All-America First Team honors (2013), MAC Player of the Year (2013), Top Drawer Soccer Best XI (2013), and was named to the All-MAC Team three times (First team: 2013, 2011; Second team: 2012), among other awards. He also was named a Hermann Trophy Semifinalist in 2013.

Gimenez, 21, appeared in 81 matches for Wake Forest in his four years at the school, where he scored 26 goals and notched 11 assists. The native Brazilian earned First Team All-ACC honors (2013) and Second-Team All ACC (2012) in addition to being named to the All-ACC Freshman Team in 2010.
