Omaha Beef Open By Signing Five Players For 2014 Season

Omaha, NE, January 17, 2014: The Omaha Beef Indoor Football Team has announced that they will hold open tryouts for players interested in playing for the 2014 season on November 23, 2013 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the UNO Dome. The UNO Dome is located at 68th & Spring Street. Registration will begin at 4:00 p.m. Players are asked to bring athletic indoor turf shoes as well as the $50** registration fee (**$40 if they pre-register). They will be expected to perform a 40-yard dash as well as a variety of drills to access their agility, speed, etc. Visit www.beeffootball.com for more information on registration.The Omaha Beef have signed five players for the 2014 season bringing back three key players from last season's team and two new free agents. Omaha's returning three are DL/LB Chris Bradford, DE James Patterson, and OL Julius Nero, with the additions of S Brock Gentile and DB Fred Whitted.
Chris Bradford resigns with the Beef coming off a strong season defensively last year. Bradford played 11 games last year and proved to be a menace to offenses recording 10 sacks, 24 solo tackles with 14 assisted tackles, including 12.5 tackles for a loss. Bradford also had a fumble recovery for a touchdown against the Kansas Koyotes last March. Bradford comes into this season as a DL/LB alternate and is expected to make some noise this season.
James Patterson returns to the Beef defense looking to make an impact. Patterson played only 4 games last season, recording 6 solo tackles, 2 assisted, and had 1 sack. Patterson also proved to be a threat to the pass game with 2 break-ups and an interception last season.
Omaha resigns veteran OL Julius Nero who proved to be a valuable asset last year. Nero was a key part to last year's strong offensive line and will continue to be an essential part in protecting this season's starting quarterback. Nero will have opportunities to show his veteran leadership this season.
DB Fred Whitted is returning to for the 2014 season. Whitted played eight games last season in which he recorded 13 solo tackles and 4 assisted. Whitted's key performance came in last season's game against the Lincoln Haymakers back on June 1st, where Whitted intercepted a pass with 0:13 seconds remaining and returned it for a touchdown.
Omaha has added S Brock Gentile out of South Dakota State University for the 2014 season. Gentile, a 5'10" 190 pound safety, played 10 games in his final season with the Jackrabbits of SDSU recording 28 solo tackles, 21 assisted, including 3 tackles for a loss. Gentile snagged 3 interceptions along with 7 break-ups and 10 pass deflections. Gentile comes into this season competing for a starting role since last playing with the Sioux Falls Storm in 2008.
