Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, ND - Ronnie Bourquin was one of the top offensive and defensive players for the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks last season. He'll be back for a second year as the veteran third baseman has re-signed for 2014.

Bourquin, 28, batted .296 with 21 doubles, 18 home runs, 65 RBIs and 77 runs scored in 97 games for Fargo-Moorhead in 2013. He posted .411 on-base and .523 slugging percentages and thrived after moving into the second spot in the batting order early in the season.

Bourquin set career highs in runs scored, home runs, on-base percentage and slugging percentage and tied for second in the American Association in walks (67) and intentional walks (4). He was stellar in the field as well, posting a .945 fielding percentage at third base while leading the league in assists and put-outs for that position.

Bourquin signed with the RedHawks in 2013 as a free agent after spending the 2011 and 2012 seasons with the St. Paul Saints. Originally selected by the Detroit Tigers in the second round of the 2006 draft out of Ohio State University, he advanced to Double-A with the Tigers before signing with the Schaumburg Flyers of the Northern League in 2010.

"Ronnie was not only one of our top players, but a top player in the league in 2013," said RedHawks Manager Doug Simunic. "He really came on hitting behind Zach Penprase, showed great plate discipline and benefited from playing in our ballpark with our dimensions. Hopefully he can build on last season and continue to be an impact player playing a premium position."
