Multi-Point Games from Price and Gongalsky Not Enough to Move Past Road Warriors

North Charleston, S.C. - Defenseman Jeremy Price and forward Igor Gongalsky each scored a goal and an assist, but the South Carolina Stingrays (25-9-1-2) fell to the Greenville Road Warriors (18-15-2-1) 5-3 at the North Charleston Coliseum Tuesday evening.
Road Warriors forward Tyler Hosmer kicked off the scoring 5:14 into the game slipping a wrist shot between the legs of Stingrays goaltender Jeff Jakaitis (L, 20 saves 25 shots) from the top of right-wing circle. The Stingrays tied the contest on the power play when Gongalsky backhanded in his fifth goal of the season over the glove of Road Warriors netminder Jeff Malcolm (W, 36 saves on 39 shots) at 11:38. Defensemen Steve Spinell and Jeremy Price recorded assists. Just over a minute later, Road Warriors forward Josh Nicholls made it 2-1 at 12:48.
Early in the second period, defenseman Mike Marcou made it a two-goal Road Warriors lead at 2:56. Price pulled the Stingrays back within on at 9:19 completing a 2-on-1 rush with forward Paul Rodrigues. With defenseman Sam Klassen in the penalty box for high-sticking, Road Warriors team captain Sean Berkstresser capitalized on an unassisted shorthanded breakaway at 16:45 for a 4-2 advantage.
Hosmer grabbed his second goal of the game at 4:39 of the third period to extend the Road Warriors' lead. Stingrays forward Kyle Bodie wrapped up the game scoring at 16:40 with help from Gongalsky and forward Wayne Simpson. The Stingrays finished the game 1-for-3 on the power play. The Road Warriors did not receive a man advantage.
The Stingrays visit the Cincinnati Cyclones on Friday, January 17 at 7:35 p.m. at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio and head over to Evansville, Indiana to take on the Evansville IceMen on Saturday, January 18 at Ford Center 8:15 p.m. The Stingrays return to the North Charleston Coliseum for Family Four Pack Friday on Friday, January 24 against the Florida Everblades at 7:05 p.m. Grab four tickets, four hotdogs, four sodas and large popcorn for $55 at the Coliseum Box Office.
